Remember, only you can control how long your hair will last. You work hard for your money, so if you just purchased new hair why not take care of it as if it was your own? There are some ways to prolong its lifespan. Keep it on a wig stand when you’re not wearing it. This can help maintain its structure and keep it from getting tangled. Sleep in a satin bonnet. Take a look at our selection of styles and colors here.   Avoid hot water, saltwater, and chlorine to prevent any damage to the strands, and be mindful of what tools you use to style your wig. Depending on the style and texture, you may not want to use heated styling tools, such as curling irons or straighteners. When in doubt, go easy on your wig. For example, if you purchased a body wave texture or kinky curly hair why in the world would you use heated tools? Protect your hair investment and purchase only hair textures and fit your lifestyle and mood. Convenience is the key to successfully wearing hair extensions and wigs. The more careful and gentle you are to your human hair wigs, the longer they will last. H D Lace & Transparent Lace Wigs

I know many of you have you have seen the new craze over transparent lace and HD lace. Today’s blog will help you to help you better understand the differences between the two and whether they’re a fit for you. HD stands for “high definition”. HD lace uses a lace material that used to be called Swiss lace, which is invisible when applied to the scalp. This ensures that the wig-wearer can wear hairstyles that expose the full hairline. These HD lace wigs look very natural and render the lace along the hairline undetectable.  HD Lace is the thinnest lace there is, it disappears into the scalp like no other. You can finally wear the same lace wigs that your favorite celebrities has but without the extremely high cost. What Is Transparent Lace?  This lace is made typically from French or Swiss lace (Swiss lace is more commonly used for transparent lace extensions). Transparent lace is very thin lace, blends easily with most skin tones and is ventilated with real human hair. The best part about it is that this lace makes the hand-tied knots less visible. What’s The Difference Between Normal lace and HD Lace? The key to wearing a wig is to make it look as natural as possible. Nobody likes the “grid” look, it’s not acceptable anymore.  The HD lace (Swiss lace) is more see-through than normal lace, which can better blend into the scalp, and make the hairline look more natural and less visible.  We often recommend the transparent lace to women with lighter skin tones, but recently we found that the transparent color lace can melt into any skin tone after we bleach the hair knots. But according to the features of the lace material itself, HD lace (Swiss lace) is still thinner, more delicate, and transparent than the normal transparent lace. The Pros & Cons of Each Wig Lace

How to Rock a 360-Lace Wig!

360 Lace Wigs · Brazilian hair · Cancer Wigs · Custom Wigs · Eye lashes · Full lace wigs · Fullace Wigs · H D wigs · Hair extensions · Handmade Wigs · Mobilestylist · Pre-Plucked Wigs · Wig cleaning service · Wig making services · Womens Wigs · May 22, 2020 How to Rock a 360-Lace Wig! Owning a 360-lace wig is a great option if you like wearing updo’s. The thing l love most about 360-lace wigs is they offer more variety in styling. These wigs are made by hand-tying or knotting the individual strands of hair onto the lace to create the entire wig. You can part the wig anywhere you want, and you can even rock cornrows with these wigs. But remember that some 360-lace wigs have an opening at the crown that must be finished off with additional hair extensions. They are most often made with human hair and can be dyed, curled, or straightened to meet your styling needs. Lace-front wigs, full-lace or 360-lace wigs will all require you to trim the lace around the edge of the wig and manipulate the part you wish to create. ALH now offers the option of adding hair to the original hairline that matches you natural hairline to give it a more natural look. Since full-lace wigs come in different levels of hair density (meaning some wigs are fuller than others), you may need to adjust the width of the part by requesting less density. Our wigs come with pre-plucked hairline and remember it is very important that you save time and money by ordering your wigs from Ada Leroux Hair! Click here. Wigs · Hair blog · Hair bundles · Hair care · Hair extensions · hairextensions · Handmade Wigs · Indian hair · Lace Frontal Wigs · Machine made wigs · Mobilestylist · Pre-Plucked Wigs · Wig cleaning service · Wig making services · Womens Wigs · May 29, 2020 HOW TO SECURE YOUR WIG Although a well-fitting wig should stay in place without any further wig attachments, you may feel happier using an added security wig attachment, such as some wig combs. Method 1: Wig Combs Almost all wigs usually come with hand sewn comb inside the wig caps if done properly they are placed in the following areas: the crown, back of the head and just above the ears. Just be aware that wig combs are only effective if you have some hair and you are not wearing a wig cap. Wig combs are easy to use and an inexpensive way of securing your wigs every day of the week. They come in different colors to match all your different wigs, as well as different sizes, to complement the different stylings of our wigs too. Once you’ve styled your wig, all your need to do is lift a handful of the top section of the wig and place the combs in to secure the wig around your scalp. It’s good to do a few trial runs of securing the wig with combs before wearing your wig out just so you feel comfortable and confident with where the combs are placed. Method 2: Wig Tape Before using any wig tape or adhesive it’s always a great idea to do a skin test on the inside of your elbow. Why? To make sure you’re not allergic to the ingredients in these products. If you notice any rashes, itching, or even swelling, discard that product before you put it on your head. If you’re a cancer patient please speak with your doctor before using any types of products on your skin. The wig tape is attached to the underside of your wig to secure a comfortable bond to your scalp. This type of bond may last from 7 to 10 days. It is a great place to start if you can not to secure your wig with your own hair. I strongly recommend you purchase the accompanying wig tape or glue solvent as it cuts down on the removal time of your wig. It’s a more scalp-friendly alternative to wig glue, as adhesives can irritate a sensitive scalp, especially for those recovering from cancer treatment. Wig tape is a great way to keep your wig in place whilst still allowing for natural movement and the low residue tape allows for an  easy clean-up. The tape is good for daily wear dependent on temperature, humidity and body oils of the wig-wearer. Method 3: Wig Caps For those asking how to secure a capless wig, a wig cap may be the perfect solution for you. There are many benefits to wearing a wig cap, most importantly it guarantees that your long or short natural hair will stay in place. What’s more, it prevents friction from breaking the natural hair by creating a safe and sanitized barrier between the wig and scalp, maintaining the cleanliness of your wig. Some of our customers love wig caps, and some don’t. It is a completely personal preference. Wig caps don’t just act a protective barrier between the scalp and your wig, they are also the perfect tool for helping keep your wig in place.  Method 4: Wig Grip The Wig Grip was designed to make wearing a wig during hair loss more secure, confident and comfortable. It adjusts to body movements, distributes the weight of a wig or hat evenly and keeps them from slipping. It is phenomenal for alleviating pressure and provides great wig security. If you want to remove your wig regularly throughout the day, it is easy to take on and off with the wig grip. If you wear wig tape all day you can sometimes get a tension headache, while that typically won’t happen with a wig grip. You might find that a wig grip band is a lightweight, durable, and very comfortable solution. Method 5: Wig Glue Like with wig tape, wig glue should only be used by people little or no hair. As with wig tape, wig glue is an extremely secure method of wig attachment, and you could potentially rip out hairs when you remove it. Remember to purchase wig tape or glue remover solvent to make the removal process easier. Wig glue is a adhesive that will dry clear, require at least two or three coats to create a strong bond, and won’t leave stains. Most glue is has a water base and is pliable (it will move with your skin rather than staying stiff in one area). FRONTALS OR CLOSURE ?

QUICK LOOK AT BOTH Frontals and closures have different advantages and setbacks, the choice you make between them depends on what you are trying to achieve with your wigs or hair extensions. In short, frontals and closures are what we call mini hairpieces, they are used to finish off your sew ins or added to top wigs for more volume. Naturally the goal is to give you a flawless but natural look, like the hair is growing out of your scalp. Let’s start with frontals. FRONTALS We at Ada Leroux Hair really love frontals, they are so versatile allowing for styling flexibility. Of the two mini hairpieces mentioned above, a frontal usually measures 13 inches in length from ear to ear and go 4 to 6 inches deep. This length is great because it allows for deeper partings and front updo’s. Secondly, they are a great solution for women and girls experiencing traction Alopecia or other medical hair loss issues because they also require less bundles. Frontals are made with a lightweight materials: the hair is hand tied knotted to the lace so that when its laid next to skin looks like hair growing out of scalp. Customization is often required and should be done by an experienced hair stylist. Due to delicate materials used a word of caution is needed, as great as frontals are we do not recommend them for daily everyday wear. Frontals give you so many options for styling. You can do a center part or deep-side part, but you can also pull your hair back into a half-ponytail or full ponytail. This is a great option for those who like to mix up their looks and change the way they part their hair. With this hairpiece, you’re not limited to the number of ways you can part or style your hair. Do keep in mind, because frontals are so versatile and include more material, they do tend to be pricier than closures. CLOSURES A closure is similar to a frontal, but it has more limitations when it comes to styling. Instead of having a strip of scalp-like material that runs from ear to ear, the closure typically comes in a horseshoe shape in the following sizes: 4×4, 5×5, 6×6, and even 7×7- inch. Closures are hand tied and knotted with human hair giving the illusion of hair growing from scalp. The closure can be placed on the middle, right or left side of the sew in or wig.  Unlike the frontal, which allows you to part your hair in an infinite number of ways, the closure only allows for a few different parting styles. If that is a big concern for you, then opt in to the largest sizes closures 5×5, 6×6, or 7×7-inch. Closures are an excellent choice for daily wear and tends to be a bit easier to manage. If you are thinking about trying bangs then closures are great way to test that look out.  Keep in mind it’s not really possible to create up-dos or half ponytails with closures, but they are great for every day styles that is why they cost a bit less than frontals. Quality and grade of hair also may factor into the cost. Extend the life of your wigs and hair extensions buy wearing our newest products, our satin bonnets are a great choice for maintaining hair quality. All the best, Ada Leroux Hair Hey do you wear our products? We would love to see your selfies!

How to successfully care for your system at home Keep your hair system looking great I remember the very first wig I bought, I was so excited. My wig was a long wavy black one, back then it was called a “french body wave”. I wore my first wig for about a week and I decided to wash it because I was in a hurry and needed it to look a certain way. So I took it off my head and just started wetting it. To my horror the wig became completely matted to the point I could not do anything to fix it. Needless to say I ended up having to buy another wig that same day. As I became a hairstylist and learned more about hair and extensions I realized that I was not properly educated in how to wash my wig or hair extensions. I did not realize that beauty shop “hair” is not really hair. Have you ever noticed when you buy hair that it seems to get matted or tangled after washing it just a couple of times? That’s because its literally disreguarded hair from the temples or hair collected from brushes and combs. Ugh anyways, the point I am trying to make is that I did not purchase good quality hair to begin with, nor did I know how to wash it correctly. So, I thought perhaps you may want to know how to successfully wash your wig at home. First let me start by saying if you search online you will see many different examples of how to wash a wig at home. Some suggestions are good and some are not. I am sharing my experiences of trial and error by washing my own wigs at home. You must decide which suggestions works best for you. Tip 1 Deciding how often you want to wash your wig is a personal choice. However, many women choose to wash their lace wigs and hair extensions every one to two weeks. In the Summer the hot weather can be a bit of a challenge, in such cases it’s a good idea to simply rinse hair with lukewarm water and apply conditioner sparingly to avoid buildup. If the hair begins to feel sticky or dry, it may be time to give it a good shampoo. The same goes for if the wig begins to lose its curl or volume. Remember, washing your wig will limit its lifespan, so you don’t want to over wash it. If you wear a wig cap underneath and remove your wig before going to bed, you can help reduce the number of times you need to shampoo and condition it. Ada Leroux Hair offers real satin bonnets in different colors. These bonnets will protect your wig and hair extensions while you sleep at night because it reduces the amount of friction your new hair will experience. Plus it extends the lifespan of your wigs, extensions, and toppers. Tip 2 Before you purchase your next wig please buy a styrofoam head or a canvas block head. You can find them both on Amazon but the styrofoam head can be found at your local beauty supply store for next to nothing. Now I normally start with a canvas block head that is smaller than my actual wig size. For example, I wear a small to medium wig cap so I would get a small canvas if you don’t want to overstretch your wig. Next I take my wig and pin it down to the canvas block head then I put one more pin in the back so it doesn’t fall off. Once I’ve done that the next thing I’m going to do is comb the wig out make sure there’s no tangles in it at all. Of course you want to get the right shampoo (sulfur-free) for the rest of the steps. After I’ve combed it out, take the wig and set it down into the sink. Just begin to wet it with water until it’s fully saturated. Once it’s fully saturated put it in your hand in and rub it around a little bit and then slowly add more shampoo to it. Remember to keep the shampoo and conditioner away from the lace because the lace has been hand knotted and if it gets wet then hair will start to shed more so be careful. Tip 3 Carefully rinse the shampoo and conditioner out of the hair, which is very easy to do because you have the wig sitting on the wig head. It’s been my personal experience over the years that this is actually the best way to shampoo and condition your wig. Instead of trying to hold the wig in your hand and doing all that other stuff this is it’s better with a block head. It’s stress-free and you allow the wig to keep its shape. Most well-made wigs have a shape that it fits around your head and if you mess around with that too much  it will literally cause it to collapse and it will lose its shape. So when you’re not wearing your wig it’s always a good idea to put it on the styrofoam head  or on a canvas block. Now the hair should feel really soft and I’m also suggest you remove your wig off the styrofoam head or canvas block head and lay it on top of a soft towel and gently roll it to remove the excess water.

WHAT IS A CRANIAL PROSTHESIS?

360 Lace Wigs · Alopecia Wigs · Bob wigs · Brazilian hair · Cancer Wigs · Cranial hair prothesis · Custom Made Wigs · hairextensions · Hairline · Handmade Wigs · Luxury hair · Medical wigs · Wig making services · Womens Wigs · Sep 12, 2022 WHAT IS A CRANIAL PROSTHESIS? Lets start by sharing what it is and what it does A cranial hair prosthesis is a specially designed head covering that restores hair on the head and gives the wearer a natural-looking head of hair. The cranial prosthesis also aids in the regulation of body temperature and protects the scalp against outdoor elements. A cranial hair prosthesis is considered a necessary part of a person’s health recovery. Therefore Health insurance companies will cover 80 to 100 % of the cost if you get a written doctor’s prescription. I have great respect for women who choose to go bare-headed like Jada Pickett Smith, I have to agree she rocks that bare head nicely. However, other women are not as comfortable in rocking an uncovered head. Hair on your head is a not only an important part of your body, but it also represents a symbol of pride and joy for many women. Your mental health is essential to your overall well-being, not to mention your perceived attractiveness, sexual appeal, and feeling good about yourself. When battling any disease that causes hair loss, there is nothing wrong with wanting hair; after all, we can agree that it is a large part of a person’s identity. Replacing your lost hair is not vanity, it fills a need to feel normal and recognize the person in the mirror that is staring back at you.  A cranial hair prosthesis (or hair system) is a custom-made medical head covering specifically designed for patients who have lost their hair. These medical conditions include alopecia areata, alopeciatotalis, lupus, thyroid diseases, trichotillomania, and chemotherapy. The correct terminology, cranial hair prosthesis, is often a recommended phrase when applying for medical insurance to cover the cost.  Cranial prostheses also help to protect your skin and weakened immune systems from the sun; just like your natural hair protects the scalp, the cranial prosthesis regulates body temperature. A cranial hair prosthesis is different from a regular wig because it is made to fit a person’s head shape and often mimic’s their natural hair. The base is msde from a hypoallergenic fabric because people with chemotherapy are sensitive to any material, and their scalp is prone to allergies. The hair is usually hand-knotted onto the lace base of the cap to create an illusion of growing hair. Will my insurance cover the cost of my cranial prosthesis? Hair loss can be an unfortunate side effect of many chemotherapy treatments for cancer. Some people may embrace their newly bare head and leave it uncovered. Still, others are more comfortable wearing a cranial prosthesis. Even when hair loss is expected, it can still be shocking to see it fall out. Planning for hair loss may help ease this transition. There are many options for head covers, and all have advantages and disadvantages. A cranial hair prosthesis that looks like your natural hair is an excellent choice before starting treatment. On average, it can take up to 60 days to produce cranial prostheses. Wigs can be expensive, but medical insurance may cover the cost of a wig when hair loss is caused by chemotherapy. The approval process may not be a simple one, though. This article will explain how you can request coverage for a wig and your options if insurance doesn’t pay. Call Your Health Insurance Provider Many private health insurance policies will cover at least part or all of the cost of a cranial prosthesis. Before meeting with a certified hair replacement specialist, it’s essential to call the insurance company and ask about their requirements. The cost of the cranial prosthesis can vary tremendously, depending on the following factors: How the cranial prosthesis is made (with natural human hair or synthetic materials). The hairstyle and the quality of the wig. With the advances in synthetic hair, a cranial prosthesis may be covered entirely by your insurance company, but the cost of a real human hair cranial prosthesis may be more expensive and may come with a higher out-of-pocket cost. Again, it depends on your insurance company as they may cover 80% or up to 100% of the cost. Terminology is key A prescription from a dermatologist or oncologist is often needed for insurance coverage. Still, the terminology used in the order is essential. All health insurance companies require a prescription that uses one of the following terms and must include one of the following codes for insurance to pay for them.  Hair prosthesis Full or partial cranial prosthesis  Cranial prosthesis Cranial hair prosthesis Extra-cranial prosthesis Codes are A9282, D5924 “Cranial Prosthesis,” and S8095 “Cranial Prosthesis” Though this terminology may sound strange, it’s just the way that insurance companies prefer to label chemotherapy-required cranial prostheses. The diagnosis from your doctor must include a letter stating why you need a cranial prosthesis.  These reasons usually are: To be protected from elements, i.e., Sun, cold, rain, and wind. Maintain body temperature control. Physical discomfort from lack of hair covering and the mental toll of not having hair. The insurance company may also require that you purchase it first, send in the receipt, and then file a claim.  When you file the claim, you must know how to classify your new hair. Under no circumstances should you tell your insurance company it is a “wig.” The claim will be denied; it must be called a full or partial cranial prosthesis, cranial hair prosthesis, or “durable medical goods.” Keep copies of your paperwork. Make copies of all paperwork related to your cranial prostheses. Keeping a file with copies of all medical-related hair loss costs can save money. If the claim is delayed or missing, resubmitting it is easy. The following items can be essential to keep. The healthcare provider’s cranial prosthesis prescription. Sales receipt

Each hair fiber is made up of three layers. The innermost layer is called the medulla, and it is composed of loosely packed cells at the center of a single strand. The middle part of your hair fiber that surrounds the medulla is called the cortex, which comprises keratin proteins and structural lipids. The cortex makes up most of the hair strand mass and is surrounded by the cuticle layer, which protects the overall structure of each strand. The hair cuticle is the outermost layer of the hair shaft, it acts as a protective barrier for the hair strand and gives it a lot of shine. The cuticle is made up of layers that look like shingles. You can take one strand of your hair and slide your finger down your hair shaft. It will feel really smooth. To feel the cuticle, you will need to slide your fingers up your hair strands to feel the shingles that compose the cuticle. So why is the cuticle so important when dealing with hair extensions? If the hair strands are not going in the same direction, the hair will not be happy, and you will not be satisfied because it will tangle up all the time. When creating hair extensions, the hair needs to be going in the same direction.  The Hair Extension Industry Truthfully, the hair extension industry is still largely unregulated and does not have a legitimate grading system. Since 2010, Hair extension manufacturers have struggled to set themselves apart from their competitors regarding how to grade and sell more of their hair extension products to consumers. So, these manufacturers came up with the so-called hair grading system that uses a combination of numbers ranging from 4 to 12 and the letters, usually “A” or “AA and “AAA.” All this is an attempt to prove that their hair is better quality than the other hair extension manufacturers. As a licensed hairstylist and certified hair replacement specialist, I have a unique perspective about hair extensions as I have personally worn and installed just about every type of hair extensions. The number one piece of advice I give people seeking to purchase new hair extensions or wigs is to take the hair extensions and run your fingers through it. If you feel any type of resistance then you may have a valid reason to be concerned. Next, gently take the hair bundle and slide it behind your neck. It should feel great, not itchy. Hair Extension Types Different degrees or types of hair are used when manufacturing hair extensions, wigs, hairpieces, and toppers. Lets go over some of the common types of hair you’ll find.  100% Virgin Hair (Raw) Raw virgin hair is sourced from donors who did not use chemicals on their hair. The hair is usually thick and in excellent condition; it is the most expensive hair you can buy and it has the highest quality. It is human hair with all the cuticles going in the same direction which hasn’t gone through any chemical or mechanical processing. Some manufacturers will steam treat the hair to create a different texture. If the hair is straight, it is still raw virgin hair.  Remy or Remi HairThis hair is sourced from two or more donors. Remy’s hair is also 100% human hair. All the cuticles go in the same direction to prevent tangles and matting, but unlike Virgin Hair it has been chemically or mechanically processed.
